Jefferson County Dairy Breakfast

We are continuing the tradition of the Jefferson County Dairy Breakfast
on May 31, 2008 from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Hoard's Dairy Farm on the north side of Fort Atkinson.

We are an all-volunteer group with all profits going towards the funding of youth education and the dairy industry.  The funds we raise will be going towards Agricultural Youth (educational teams, grant programs, scholarships), FFA and 4-H Improvements at the Fair Park, and Agricultural Grants. Our Financial Report is available to anyone upon request.

The Jefferson County Dairy Breakfast Organizing Committee reports that proceeds from the 2006 Dairy Breakfast totaling $5,500 have been awarded locally in scholarships and grants.

This year’s scholarship recipients are Rebecca Folgert of Helenville who is studying Agri-business at UW-Madison, Katie Cramer of Watertown who is studying Dairy Science at UW-River Falls, Kyle Bretl of Fort Atkinson who is attending UW-Stevens Point to pursue a degree in Natural Resources and Zachary Achilli of Fort Atkinson for the UW Farm & Industry Short Course.

Grants in the amount of $1,300 have been awarded to the Jefferson County Dairy Youth Fund for the Showmanship Jackpot, $1,300 for youth-related improvements at the Jefferson County Fair Park and $50 to the Lucky Clovers 4-H Club of Watertown.

The 2007 Dairy Breakfast Scholarship and Grant Applications are now available at the UW-Extension Office at 864 Collins Road, Jefferson, WI 53549, or go online to www.uwex.edu and search for “Jefferson County Dairy Breakfast Scholarship Application.”

The Dairy Breakfast Committee invites grant and scholarship applications from 4-H and FFA members to support their educational goals. Scholarship applicants must be entering or enrolled in a post-high school Agricultural Program. Grant and scholarship applicants must be active in Jefferson County 4-H, FFA, or Breed Organizations and/or reside in Jefferson County.

Agricultural producers from Jefferson County may apply for grants to help fund educational seminars, conventions, and other programs they attend or participate in. Grant proposals will also be considered from the Jefferson County Fair Park for improvements that benefit youth exhibitors.

Last year’s Dairy Breakfast served nearly 2,500 people at the Jefferson County Fair Park.

The organizing committee extends their sincere thanks to everyone who contributed money or food products, volunteered their time, or in any way helped make past events successful.

The committee invites anyone who would like to participate in the planning of this year’s event to contact Committee President Marlene Zick at 920-563-4492.

The planning committee meets monthly at the Jefferson County Fair Park Activity Center at 7:00 p.m. on the second Monday of the month.
